Spring is on the Way...

So it's been a long, harsh winter (at least for us!). We aren't used to the -40 and -50 temps and the neverending snow, especially the kids, since they were born in and grew up on Vancouver Island where it rarely ever snows. The kids love it - I don't know how or why kids seem to be so immune to the coldness; they would play outside every day, all day if they could! Luckily, my husband and I were able to escape to Mexico for a long overdue and much needed week of alone time. We dropped the kids off at his sisters, after a week-long visit with her and his nephews and his parents, and we hopped on a plane and arrived to hot, humid, sunny weather - just my style!

I thought I would add some of the photos I've taken over the winter and some favorites from Mexico. Spring is finally on it's way here in icy cold Fort Smith, so the temps are warming up to only -5 or so each day (yay!) and the snow is sort of melting... slowly but surely...! I am hoping to maybe do a photo shoot here and there this spring and summer because I miss doing it! Maybe there are some new babies due to arrive, or someone getting married in the area, or a family who needs to have their family photo updated? Let me know if that's you!

For Lifestyle photos, feel free to check out my Portfolio tab at the top of the page to view some of my favorites! Also, check out my Facebook page here.

What is the weather like where you are? Do you love it or hate it?

Enjoy the photos!

A Few Updates...

Hello!  It has been quite some time since I last updated this blog... and not without good reason!  I feel like our family has jammed everything it possibly could into the span of the last 10 months! We were away the month of May, we listed our house, our transfer was approved, my husband's family lost basically everything in the High River flood, they came to live with us temporarily, we moved shortly after they left, and we now reside in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories!  That's right... no more Vancouver Island for this click-happy chic, as sad as that may be!  I do miss the Island, but I must say, it is pretty spectacular up here!  The family is loving it - even though winter is quickly setting in!

I have not been doing any photography lately, because things have been so hectic.  I did one last newborn session days before we left since it was for some dear friends of ours, and baby came early just so that I could take his precious photos (hehe!).  Other than that, it's just been my own family shots here and there and a lot of outdoors photography of the surrounding landscape and of our trip up here.  (We drove over 5 days from Sooke to here, with a van full of kids and pets and a trailer full of necessary belongings and Costco/Walmart stock-up items!).

I do intend to continue my lifestyle photography business here in the North, aside from my full-time child care provider duties..!  I am hoping to be able to establish a small client base here in Fort Smith (and I say small not only because of time constraints and commitments, but because this town is only populated by about 2500 people!)

On that note... enjoy the randoms below and do look for some new session peaks soon!  I will also be doing some photographing of the beautiful and stunning Northern Lights... so stay tuned for that!

Cheers,
Janette

Spring on Vancouver Island

Spring has definitely sprung here in Victoria/Sooke!  It has been so beautiful the last little while.  The cherry blossoms are out in full swing, the rainy days have been few (I say this as the grey sky implies it'll rain today). Easter weekend was so beautiful and warm that my kids were able to wear their Easter outfits outside with no coats, and when we walked to the park, it was so sunny and warm that we were all taking our sweaters off!  I love it! Yesterday we took our kids to one of the many beaches in the area - I could never say that at this time of the year in Ontario where I grew up!

Spring is a great time of year to get photos done as well.  It's getting warmer, it's getting drier, and the endless amount of outdoor backdrops seem to be popping out everywhere.  Any time I am outside or driving somewhere, all I see is beautiful spots to have photos done!  I have a few photo sessions on the horizon, mostly newborns (love love love newborns!).  In fact, my very dear friend, who I did a maternity shoot for earlier this year, just had her beautiful little baby girl!  An exciting day indeed! I can't wait to meet her!

Please stop by to view my portfolios here and email me to book your lifestyle photography session. I have a limited amount of time slots available this Spring. Photo session packages start at just $150!

Baby {C} Sneak Peek

Yesterday I was able to make it up to a friend's house to do a photo session with their sweet little 14-day-old baby girl.  Many family and friends have been waiting a long time for these guys to have a baby! ;)  I was honored to have the chance to photograph her.  She was a feisty little one!  Baby {C} was awake and a bit fussy for nearly the whole shoot, but we still managed to get some good shots!  Hope you enjoy this little sneak peek!  A big welcome to baby {C} and congratulations to mom and dad! :) xo
